How To Add a Cookie Law Compliance Notification Widget [Customizable]

cookie compliance widget blogger bloggigngehow

As per the EU Directive back in 2011, a cookie law was introduced which was then adopted by the European countries. The law was introduced to give the website visitors control over their privacy. Almost every website utilized cookies (not an eatable cookie.)

Think of it as a container where your information is being saved locally on your own computer, So next time when you visit that website again, it would know more about you already.

The law gave the visitors a right to control on what's being stored on a cookie. Looking forward to this, Blogger (Blogspot) recently issued a notification to all of it's webmasters to make sure that their blogs where consistent with this policy and displayed a cookie consent notification on their blogs.

For this matter, Blogger automatically now adds up a notification on your blogger blogs, though it doesn't have a great UI appeal.

The widget that I'll be sharing now is called 'Cookie Consent' by SilkTide. It's a very simple, yet elegantly designed cookie compliance notification widget.

The best thing about this widget is that it's quite customizable. The layouts, the background color, text, buttons anchor text etc.

There are couple of layouts that you can choose from as below:

Follow the steps below to add this EU (Europe) cookie consent notification widget. You could add these to WordPress, Blogger or any other platform that you use.

Step #1  Choose Layout

Go to Cookie Consent Widget. Next up, choose your desired layout as shown in the screen shot below. Once done, this continue.

Step #2 Add a cookie policy link

Then you have to add a cookie policy page that your website adheres by. You could either create a cookie policy page where you can list down how exactly and for what purpose your website or blog uses cookies.

Or if you're on a Blogger blog, you can use (http://s-s.www.google.com.prx.gb.teleport.to/policies/technologies/cookies/) as an option. Though, this is a generic cookie policy page that shows how Google uses cookies.

That doesn't lists down how your in particular uses them. You might be having many more widgets and tools installed that would utlize the cookies in any other way. It's better you create a custom one and disclose them.

Then hit continue.

Step #3 Generate and Install Code

Copy the code just above </head> section of your blog. That's all at your end!

That's all! Hope you like the widget!

Till next time, take care :)
